WELCOME
SIUC’s Department of Geography and Environmental Resources focuses on environmental management at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty expertise is in water resources, land use, and geospatial techniques. Field work, use of computers, and internships are prominent components of the integrated environmental problem-solving approach in both our undergraduate and graduate programs.

WE ARE...
  • Nationally recognized focus on Environmental Geography and Water Resources
  • Headquarters of the Universities Council on Water Resources
  • Faculty participate in many on-going, interdisciplinary, research teams supported through grants from: the U.S. Department of Agriculture for work on ecological restoration of multiple-owner watersheds ($719,000), U.S. Geological Survey for analyzing American water use trends ($150,000), the National Science Foundation for virtual watershed modeling ($400,000), and others
  • Our Environmental GIS Lab trains students to use current GIS and remote sensing technologies for environmental analysis
  • Active internship program places students with local natural resource agencies
  • We welcome all students and invite them to participate in department activities.
  • SIUC is committed to promoting a more sustainable campus by increasing the efficiency of resource and energy usage and by reducing waste. A geography faculty member and a geography student work to bring it together in one website.
