I am retired now after 24 years in the USAF as a pilot,
planning officer, and manager. After obtaining a MBA at the
University of Texas at San Antonio, I had a second career with a
large insurance company from which I retired in 1999.
Geography helped some in my Air Force career as a pilot and
planning officer, but had I pursued an engineering degree I
would have had a wider range of career opportunities (i.e.; the
space program). Of course, as an undergrad, I had no idea what
my career path would be and I turned to Geography because I so
enjoyed the classes.
I did love my days at SIU and still find my way back to
Carbondale to visit my cousin and to pay homage to my parents
and a sister who are buried in the Cobden Cemetery.
Now I play golf, tend to my house and garden, and travel some:
Kauai this year and Italy and France last year. I also serve as
a volunteer with a youth golf program and at the Texas Open (PGA
golf tournament). |
